Amazon Devices Sold In The Millions During Black Friday

Amazon devices including the Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, Fire 7 tablet, and the new Echo have together generated millions of sales during the holiday weekend starting with Black Friday up to Cyber Monday, marking a record holiday shopping period in this product category, according to the online retail giant.

More specifically, Amazon announced today that the Echo Dot smart speaker and Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote topped all other products sold on Amazon worldwide, though it was not exactly clear how many such devices were sold during the four-day period. On Black Friday, for instance, the smart speaker was on sale for only $29 on Staples along with other price cuts for the second-generation Echo and the Echo Show. Also, the new Amazon Echo that was recently announced and launched at $99 was on sale with a $20 discount, bringing its price down to $79 which was the lowest price tag for the smart speaker since it was released. Additionally, Amazon’s streaming TV device Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, which normally costs $40, was up for grabs at a discounted price of $25 during that same day, with Amazon noting that the device remains the top streaming media player in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Germany from any retailers. Sales for Fire Kids Edition tablets also reached millions during the holiday weekend across all retailers.

While not the best-selling device on Amazon.com, the Echo Spot has sold out between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, though the smart alarm clock with a 2.5-inch screen remains available for pre-order. Furthermore, the Echo Show was also available with a huge discount of $50 via Staples during the weekend, meaning the screen-equipped device was up for sale for just $179. Dave Limp, Senior Vice President for Amazon Devices & Services, said the Alexa devices were the best-sellers across the entire portfolio of Amazon products as customers bought millions of Alexa-enabled devices during the weekend. In addition to the presence of an artificial intelligence technology in those devices, which would make it easier to use them, the deep price cuts were also likely the main selling points for the Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, Fire 7, and Amazon Echo during the weekend.
