The Xiaomi Redmi 5 news have been off the hook in the last day or two, the company had confirmed that the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will launch on December 7, the Redmi 5 got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC), and now the phone surfaced on China Telecom. China Telecom is a Chinese carrier, and thanks to the listing that popped up on its official website, we now have even more information when it comes to Xiaomi’s upcoming budget handset.
This info actually comes from Roland Quandt, a well-known tipster, and he shared some of the Redmi 5’s specifications, along with four renders of the phone. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be made out of metal, a fingerprint scanner will be included on the phone’s back side, and above it, you’ll notice the device’s main camera. Company’s logo is included on the back of the phone as well, and the device’s camera will protrude on the back a bit. All of the phone’s physical keys sit on the right, while the SIM card tray lies on the left. The Redmi 5 will sport considerably thinner bezels than its predecessors, though nowhere near some other devices (flagships) on the market. That is not exactly a surprise, however, as this will be the company’s budget smartphone, so the change in its design is much appreciated, especially considering its price point. Speaking of which, the phone is expected to ship in two variants, and its pricing will, allegedly, start at 699 Yuan.
Having said that, let’s check out the specs that surfaced on China Telecom, shall we. If the provided info is to be believed, the REdmi 5 will sport a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. A 3,300mAh non-removable battery will be included in the package, while a 12-megapixel shooter will be included on the phone’s back side. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core SoC will fuel the phone, and a 5-megapixel camera will be included on the phone’s front side. Having said that, TENAA actually said that a 3,200mAh battery will ship with this phone, not a 3,300mAh unit, but other than that, these specs seem to be spot on. More RAM and storage variants of the phone will probably become available, though the China Telecom model comes with 4GB of RAM only, it seems.
