Cricket Wireless is adding two new entry-level smartphones to its portfolio, as the carrier just announced that the ZTE Overture 3 and the Alcatel QUICKFLIP will become available on November 10. Both handsets are designed for budget-conscious shoppers looking for a reliable device at a low price point, so they will not offer any high-end specifications. The ZTE Overture 3 will be free for switchers upon transferring their number to Cricket’s network and will cost $49.99 otherwise, for new and existing customers. The Alcatel QUICKFLIP, meanwhile, will be available for $29.99. Both handsets will go on sale online and in Cricket Wireless stores.
The ZTE Overture 3 features a 5-inch display, scratch-resistant glass, a quad-core processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera with flash and dual directional panorama, FM radio support, HD Voice capability, and split-screen functionality for multi-tasking. The smartphone also comes with a selfie shortcut on the lock screen to summon the front camera more quickly and easily, and it supports 4G connectivity. No additional spec details are available at this point, so other details such as screen resolution, processor type, RAM, front camera, and more, will likely become available at the time of launch. Since it’s an entry-level smartphone, however, the specs will be rather modest.
The Alcatel QUICKFLIP, meanwhile, is a simple feature phone with a flip design, without any bells and whistles. The device aims to serve as a reliable phone mainly for talking, offering basic functionality in a compact form factor. The Alcatel QUICKFLIP has a small 2.8-inch display, a physical keypad for navigation, texting and dialing, dedicated keys for the camera and messaging, a long-lasting 1,350 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, and QUICKFLIP HD Voice capability. Although it’s not a powerful smartphone, this flip phone still allows users to handle emails or browse the internet. Since it’s a flip phone, the Alcatel QUICKFLIP also enables users to answer a call by opening the flip and end a call by closing it, thus eliminating accidental calls or hang-ups. The phone also has an external color display, which shows the caller ID and notifications without having to open the flip. Lastly, essential apps such as a calculator, calendar, email, and alarm are pre-installed. The phone also supports FM radio.
