DoorSense Technology Comes To August Home’s Alexa Skill

Smart home access maker, August Home Inc., has introduced the DoorSense technology to its August Smart Lock skill for Amazon Alexa, allowing you to check the status of your home lock system while away by just using your voice. That means you can now determine whether your door has been closed or remained opened, as well as whether it has been locked or not by asking Alexa to make the necessary check-up. DoorSense, a smart sensor that notifies you once it detects that your door has not been closed and locked, was launched as a feature for August Home’s new smart locks called the August Smart Lock and the August Smart Lock Pro announced last September.

With the addition of DoorSense to the August Alexa skill, you can now ask Amazon’s cloud-based intelligent personal assistant to check if your door is locked, and Alexa will tell you about the security status of your door. Then, you may tell Alexa to ask August to lock your door. Keep in mind that before you can ask Alexa to determine whether your door is closed or open, you must first set up a four to 12 digits of security PIN code once you link your account to the intelligent home access technology. These multiple layers of security provides home owners full control of their household while they are out of town or at work. August Home unveiled three versions of its smart lock systems last month: the Smart Lock Pro (2nd-gen), the Smart Lock (2nd-gen) and the Doorbell Cam Pro. While all three products were already available for purchase at the time, only two of them were made ready for shipment by August Home.

To get started with the August Smart Lock or August Smart Lock Pro with Alexa, you must first connect the Bluetooth lock to Wi-Fi through an August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge or an August Doorbell Cam. August Home and Amazon inked a partnership in July of last year, under which the smart lock manufacturer combined its August Smart Lock into Amazon Alexa’s SDK to let you control the door lock or check if the door of your home is locked. The August Smart Lock was first unveiled in February 2015 and since then the product has gained traction among homeowners, with positive feedback.
