Google Play apps, games, and media ebb and flow in popularity like they do on any other medium, and the November report from Google shows the end result of that ebbing and flowing through the month of October, at least for the United States. Thanks to the MLB World Series happening, the MLB.com At Bat app got the top spot in apps, while Into the Dead 2 got the top spot for new games. Post Malone’s Rockstar, featuring 21 Savage, topped streamed tracks from Google Play Music. On the order of full albums, however, Post Malone and 21 Savage had to surrender the throne to Imagine Dragons, whose Evolve album topped the chart. Season 3 of Rick and Morty was the most popular TV show, while Spider-Man: Homecoming scored the top spot in movies. Finally, the most downloaded new book on Google Play is Dan Brown’s newest, called ORIGIN.
The US charts for Google Play in October reflect current events just a bit, but are mostly eclectic. The Starz app is the second most popular, followed by The CW, Simple Habit Meditation, and NBA. Stranger Things: The Game got the number two spot in its category, with Digimon Links close behind, then finally relative unknowns June’s Journey and Home Street. Game of Thrones gave up its throne to Rick and Morty to fall into second place, with longstanding chart-topper The Walking Dead coming in right behind it, and Mr Robot and The Flash netting spots four and five, respectively.
As for movies, War for the Planet of the Apes overcame Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales for second place, and Baby Driver snatched the number four spot from Wonder Woman. Peter Brett’s THE CORE got the number two spot in books, while Brandon Sanderson’s EDGEDANCER got number three, TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN by John Green hit number four, and well-known contemporary writer Danielle Steele found herself at number five with FAIRYTALE. Going into the music arena, Logic’s 1-800-273-8255 got the number two spot for streaming, while 21 Savage, the featured artist on the month’s top track, got their own jam, Bank Account, into number three. Imagine Dragons’ popularity across rankings showed through with their hit Thunder off the new album getting number four in streaming tracks, and Cardi B rounded things out with Bodak Yellow. As for albums, P!nk made second place with Beautiful Trauma, while NF got into third place with Perception. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ greatest hits album rocketed to fourth place on the sad news of the rockstar’s passing, and Demi Lovato got knocked down into fifth place with her Tell Me You Love Me (Deluxe) album as a result.
