Instagram has announced yet another new feature with the aim of increasing engagement, this time one called “Remix.” The Facebook-owned social media platform has been rolling out new features and improvements at an impressive speed as of late, especially those related to Instagram Stories. Now, though, the company’s new Remix feature takes the focus away from Stories and concentrates on private messaging.
Until now, Instagram users were allowed to exchange private videos and images between each other with ease – the most recent addition to this feature being the ability to reply to a video or image with another one or simply send some text. With the new Remix feature, though, Instagram users will be allowed to edit a photo they have received from a friend through direct messaging with a number of customization options. Among these will be unique stickers, the ability to add custom text, and even doodles. In order to do this, whenever an Instagram user receives a photo they simply need to press the reply button. When pressed, they will be prompted to capture a reply and, once done, a sticker with the original image that they are replying to will appear, which can then be moved, resized and edited to the user’s desire. This isn’t the only change being introduced to private messaging, though. Users will now also be able to control the way image and video replays work. Media sent with the “One View” option chosen can be viewed by others just once, without replays being possible. On the other hand, media sent with the “Allow Replay” option selected will loop automatically, and those who receive the image or video can press and hold freely to pause it with ease.
The new features are just the latest in a string of updates for the social network, with the most recent ones including the possibility to request to join a live video, allowing photos or videos older than 24 hours to be posted to Instagram Stories and the new Superzoom camera. The Remix feature and the new replay controls are rolling out today as part of Instagram version 24, which is available in both the Google Play Store and App Store for Android and iOS users respectively across the globe.
