The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is reportedly receiving a new firmware update including Google’s October security patch for Android devices. The update comes in as the version “J327UUEU1AQJ1” and is currently being distributed in the United States. No other changes or additions seem to be part of the new firmware package, however, the October security update should patch 215 vulnerabilities within the mobile operating system, and six vulnerabilities in Samsung’s proprietary mobile software.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) was released earlier this summer running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, with the OS being enhanced by Samsung’s own custom skin. This is unlikely to change as Samsung’s usual strategy for providing major OS updates rarely includes lower-end budget-friendly models, so the device will probably remain in the Nougat category throughout the remainder of its lifetime. However, that’s not to say that no new firmware updates will be delivered to the Galaxy J3 (2017) going forward, but for the most part, these releases will probably come in the form of security patches, not unlike the firmware update at hand. As for the update’s availability, the package is reaching units in the wild over the air, meaning that it will be accompanied by a notification. As usual, device owners can choose to wait for the notification to arrive or attempt to pull the update manually by heading down to the software section within the phone’s Settings app. Keep in mind that the process is better carried over an active Wi-Fi network, and make sure to avoid commencing the update if the smartphone has less than 50 percent of battery charge left.
There’s still no concrete information regarding a possible sequel to the Galaxy J3 (2017), but those who may still consider acquiring the 2017 model can expect a 5.0-inch PLS display with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, an Exynos 7570 chipset housing four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.4GHz, a Mali-T720 MP2 (dual-core) graphics processor, and 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of on-board storage expandable via a microSD card by up to an additional 256GB. It carries a 13-megapixel main camera accompanied by an LED flash, a front-facing 5-megapixel sensor, and relies on a 2,400mAh battery.
