Two Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus variants have just been certified in China, or so it seems. Xiaomi-branded devices with model numbers MDE1 and MDT1 have received the 3C certification in China, and according to reports, these are two Redmi 5 Plus models. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is expected to arrive in the near future, and if rumors and leaks are to be believed, this will be one of Xiaomi’s budget ‘full-screen’ smartphones.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus will not be the only budget Redmi-branded smartphone to have a ‘full-screen’ display, though, the Redmi Note 5 is also rumored to arrive with such a display, while the Redmi 5 will have a regular panel, according to rumors. Now, we still do not know when will the Redmi 5 Plus arrive, but chances are that all three phones will be announced at the same time, and it is possible that they will arrive before the end of this month, if not, then a December launch is a given. In any case, the Redmi 5 Plus is rumored to sport a 5.9-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, or a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) panel, depending on which rumor you opt to believe in. The device will probably ship with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, while MediaTek’s Helio P25 64bit octa-core SoC is said to fuel this smartphone. It is possible that Xiaomi may opt to release a Snapdragon version of this smartphone as well, as the Snapdragon 636 64-bit octa-core processor was also mentioned in some rumors, and Xiaomi is not stranger to releasing both MediaTek and Qualcomm variants of its devices when the Redmi-branded phones are concerned.
Having said that, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is expected to cost around 1,599 Yuan ($240), and the phone will probably be made out of metal. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on this smartphone, and the latest version of Xiaomi’s proprietary skin will be installed on top of Google’s OS, MIUI 9. Some leaks have suggested that the Redmi Note 5 will arrive on November 11, and it is possible that the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus may launch back-to-back with the Redmi Note 5, it remains to be seen what will happen, so stay tuned.
