Xiaomi had introduced the Redmi Y1 handset earlier today, the first member of its new ‘Redmi Y’ lineup of devices, and now the company rolled out the second handset in that family, the Redmi Y1 Lite. As its name suggests, the Redmi Y1 Lite is inferior to the Redmi Y1, but both of these phones are entry-level handsets. Much like the Redmi Y1, the Redmi Y1 Lite is made out of metal, though unlike its sibling, this handset does not sport a fingerprint scanner, at all. Now, the Redmi Y1 Lite is actually a rebranded Redmi Note 5A handset, there is literally no difference between these two devices, Xiaomi just opted to change its name for the Indian smartphone market.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, which comes with a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass, though we don’t know what version exactly. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 425 64-bit quad-core processor which is clocked at 1.4GHz, and which comes with the Adreno 308 GPU. The Redmi Y1 Lite packs in 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, while the phone also offers two SIM card slots. Android 7.1.1 Nougat comes pre-installed on the Redmi Y1 Lite, and on top of it, you’re getting Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS, though the phone is upgradable to MIUI 9. A 13-megapixel shooter (f/2.2 aperture, PDAF) is included on the back of the device, while you will find a 5-megapixel snapper (f/2.0 aperture) on the front side of the device. An IR blaster is included at the very top of the phone, while a 3,080mAh non-removable battery is also a part of this package. The Redmi Y1 Lite comes with 4G LTE with VoLTE, while Xiaomi has also included Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n here, and the same can be said for Bluetooth 4.2.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.55mm, while it weighs 150 grams. The Redmi Y1 Lite comes in Dark Gray and Gold color variants, while the device is priced at Rs. 6,999 ($108) in the country. The device will become available for purchase on November 8 from both Mi.com and Amazon India, and Amazon India will be an exclusive retailer for the device, as far as third-party resellers are concerned. We’re still not sure whether this handset will be available through offline channels in the country, but chances are that it will.
