The Amazon Fire 7 and Fire HD 8 tablets launched in the United States earlier this summer are now available for purchase in Canada through Amazon. The 7-inch tablet has the lowest starting price set at $59.99 CAD, and each model can be acquired in one of two storage configurations including 8GB and 16GB for the Fire 7 and 16GB or 32GB for the larger Fire HD 8.
Starting off with the Amazon Fire 7, the tablet features a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and a pixel density of 171 PPI. In contrast, the Amazon Fire HD 8 houses an 8-inch display with a higher resolution of 1280 by 800, resulting in a pixel density of 189 PPI. While both devices rely on a quad-core processor clocked at up to 1.3GHz, each tablet makes use of a different SoC supplied by MediaTek, with the 7-inch one employing the MT8127 CPU paired with a Mali-450 MP4 graphics chip, and the Fire HD 8 featuring the MT8163 chipset housing a Mali-T730 MP3 GPU. Furthermore, the Amazon Fire 7 sports 1GB of RAM, whereas the larger model employs 1.5GB instead, and while the latter relies on a mono speaker, the former is equipped with two Dolby Atmos stereo speakers. One of the similarities shared between the two models lies in their camera configuration, as each tablet’s back panel accommodates a 2-megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities, while a VGA sensor resides on the opposite side. Hardware specifications aside, both of these Amazon tablets run a heavily modified version of Android OS, and they are both primarily built for media consumption, especially for Amazon Prime members who can get unlimited access to countless songs, movies, and TV shows, as well as unlimited photo storage at no additional cost beyond their membership.
The Amazon Fire 7 with 8GB of on-board memory can now be acquired through Amazon Canada for the price of $59.99 CAD, whereas the 16GB model is available for $79.99 CAD. On the other hand, the larger Amazon Fire HD 8 with 16GB of on-board storage carries a price tag of $99.99 CAD, and for $129.99 CAD, prospective buyers can double the amount of its storage space to 32GB.
