Android Pay Expands Support To 53 New Banks & Credit Unions

Android Pay continues to grow its roster of supported financial institutions across the United States with the most recent addition of 53 new banks and credit unions to the mobile payment platform, with most of those new entrants being smaller banks. Since a great majority of the bigger financial institutions have already been supported by Android Pay, many banks and credit unions that have been added to the list of Android Pay’s participating banks in recent times include mostly local ones with a smaller client base. Now among the new entrants to the Android Pay platform include the Barclaycard US, Citibank, Credit One Bank, Farmers National Bank, First Federal Bank, Greenfield Savings Bank and Home National Bank, among others. If your bank has not yet supported Android Pay, you may want to check out the service’s full list of supported financial institutions (see source link below). You may also want to contact your bank for more information on whether Android Pay support is coming to your bank sometime in the future.

Like most other newly added banks to the Android Pay platform, this new list of card issuers are coming from all parts of the United States, which have gained approval from Google following the Mountain View, California-based company’s recent efforts to integrate its mobile payment service into as many banks as possible. It is not clear, though, whether or not these banks support Android Pay with all of their cards or only with a select types of cards. The latest addition to Android Pay’s list of supported banks is just one of the expansion efforts Google has been exerting upon its mobile payment platform, with 60 banks having already joined Android Pay last June. This October, 11 more US banks and credit unions also announced support for Android Pay in addition to the other 17 more financial institutions in the United States that joined the bandwagon in August of this year.

Beyond the United States, Android Pay also added support for eight banks in Canada last May, including the BMO Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Scotiabank, Desjardins, Banque Nationale, ATB Financial, Canadian Tire Financial Services, and President’s Choice Financial. Android Pay is currently available via eligible mobile devices as a means for making payments at supported retailers, though Google was recently rumored to be planning on adding a desktop support for the app.
