Charter Hiring Top Smartphone Exec As Part Of Wireless Push

Charter Communications is looking to hire a senior portfolio manager for smartphone as the American telecommunications company prepares to launch a wireless service in the first half of 2018. The top smartphone executive, who will be based in Greenwood Village, Colorado, will work to define and launch mobile device offerings and accessories as well as to manage the full life cycle of the device portfolio. The responsibilities of the portfolio manager also include the task to formulate the device requirements by collecting ideas from various sources and to recommend a roadmap for a certain smartphone product, which will need approval from the top management as a matter of course.

Additionally, the smartphone portfolio manager will be responsible for steering the certification process for a mobile device, which involves a series of steps that include testing in order to assess a smartphone’s eligibility to be finally certified by the regulating bodies. In addition to that, the product manager will also perform other tasks related to marketing efforts for a device as well as take care of Charter Communications’ alliance with original equipment manufacturers. Other major functions of the manager are to coordinate with sales and customer care channels as well as provide support for auditing activities (see source link below for more information on the job requirements). On top of the smartphone portfolio manager position, Charter Communications is also seeking to fill a project manager role, according to a job posting published on LinkedIn by Tana Perkins, Charter Communications’ program manager for mobile product.

Tom Rutledge, the company’s chief executive officer, announced Charter Communications’ plan to introduce a wireless service next year during its quarterly earnings call in October, revealing that the company plans to use its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with Verizon, which was born out of Charter Communications’ acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks earlier last year. The Stamford, Connecticut-based company also plans to adopt a different approach to wireless business, which includes using a Wi-Fi first MVNO strategy before it finally rolls out its proprietary mobile network. Charter Communications stated in a filing with the United States Federal Communications Commission that it intends to integrate Wi-Fi into various 4G and 5G connectivity systems to support full mobility for the wireless component of the company’s network. Now it remains to be seen when the telecoms firm exactly plans to introduce its wireless service.
