Echo Dot Best-Selling Product On Amazon During The Holidays

Amazon today announced that its Echo Dot device was its best-selling device during the 2017 Holiday season. Amazon actually went a little further than that by explaining how the Echo Dot was not only its best selling device, but also the best-selling product “from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon.” Further adding to the success of the company’s own line of products, Amazon also confirmed the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote was the second best-selling product on Amazon. Again, best selling “across all categories on Amazon.”

While Amazon did not provide any firm numbers on units sold, the company also did point out how it was a ‘record season’ for Amazon devices in general. With “millions more” units having been sold this year compared to last year. With the company’s line of Fire TV Sticks seemingly having done particularly well with more than twice as many units sold this year compared to during the same period last year. A similar ratio (2.4x) was also noted for Amazon’s Fire Kids Edition Tablets. In addition, it also seems as though mobile proved to be quite a popular way for buyers to engage this year with Amazon. With the company pointing out firstly how shopping through the Amazon App was up almost 70-percent compared to the year before. Secondly, over 1,400 electronic products were apparently ordered every second on mobile. Thirdly, the top products ordered via mobile were the Echo Dot, the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, and the TP-Link Smart Plug.

Amazon also provided some insight into how its customers made use of its various services during the festive period. For example, the most played album on Amazon Music was “Christmas” by Michael Bublé, while the most streamed song was “All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. When it came to TV, the most purchased movie was Elf and the most purchased series was The Walking Dead. Amazon Channel subscriptions during the Holidays proved to be good news for HBO (and in particular Game of Thrones), Showtime (and Shameless), and STARZ (and Power) with these three Channels (and shows) the most watched. Amazon’s Prime service in general also proved to be popular with the company stating in one week alone, more than four million people signed up / started paying for Prime. So all in all it seems it was a very good festive period for Amazon with the company seeing levels of growth that are likely to further concern suppliers.
