Xiaomi has announced that the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM has started rolling out for the Mi Max and Mi Max Prime beginning on Thursday, bringing with it a plethora of new features, system optimizations, and bug fixes to the aforementioned mobile devices. The final build of MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM started hitting Xiaomi smartphones earlier last month, with the Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm variant), Redmi Note 4X and Mi Max 2 handsets being the first set of devices to receive the update. Now with the final build’s arrival on the Mi Max and Mi Max Prime, the Chinese electronics and software company has introduced a number of changes such as the ability to turn the Reading mode on or off automatically depending on the time of day, though this modification applies only to the Mi Max Prime.
General new features that have landed on both smartphones include improvements to the layout and readability of search results in Contacts, integration of virus and payment scans into Security scan, ability to automatically switch on the Battery saver mode when the phone is being charged, the addition of file sharing app called Mi Drop, and improved blocklist rules that allow for separated rules for each SIM card. The update also brings various optimizations to the Mi Max and Mix Max Prime, including a new homepage and feedback design, boost in the system decryption speed, and protection from unnecessary taps on the Dial pad.
In addition to the changes and system improvements, the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM also fixes several bug fixes such as the slow home screen load time with Android 7.1 Nougat, the spontaneous change in Wi-Fi connection status caused by apps without the user’s knowledge, random crash of apps that run in the background, failure to open developer options in the Bahasa Indonesia language, problems with the Weather app when the phone is in offline mode, and issues with VoLTE calls. The MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM landed on the Mi Max and Mi Max Prime nearly a month after the final build was rolled out to the Mi 5 and Mi 5s Plus in mid-November via an OTA (over the air) update, and the final build of the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM is expected to hit other Xiaomi handsets over the next couple of months.
