Honor is holding a new product launch event on Wednesday when it will announce its latest Android-powered mobile device, Huawei’s subsidiary said earlier this month, having teased the happening with two promo images seen above. The launch itself is taking place in the company’s home country of China, with the original equipment manufacturer saying the upcoming offering will be introduced with immediate availability. That particular detail implies that the handset may be a China exclusive, at least initially.
The promos themselves star famous Chinese actor and singer Hu Ge, in addition to heavily implying that the next smartphone from the company will feature four cameras. Apart from the number four itself being prominently featured in the promos, the actor is seen as having sunglasses both on the front and back of his head, with Honor’s teaser implying that its fans should prepare for a stellar imaging experience. Some industry watchers are speculating that the event will see the launch of the Honor Note 9, Honor Magic 2, or the Honor 9 Lite. While Honor didn’t provide any more info on the matter, it’s understood that the event will only see the introduction of a single device. The Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer already commercialized a quad-camera handset in the form of the Honor 9i, also known as the Huawei Mate 10 Lite in Europe, Huawei Maimang 6 in China, and the Huawei Nova 2i in some other Asian markets.
With rumors of the Honor 9 Lite Youth Edition not panning out, it’s possible that the company simply pushed the release of its Android mid-ranger to December 13th. Alternatively, the firm may end up introducing a follow-up to the original Honor Magic that will celebrate its first anniversary on Saturday. The fact that the event wasn’t teased for weeks in advance is another indication that the next device from Honor won’t be released on a worldwide level as the firm usually doesn’t hold surprise launches for its global offerings. Still, if the unannounced handset is meant to be sold outside of China, Honor will likely be prioritizing India as it has been doing in recent times. The smartphone set to be launched two days from now is likely to be Honor’s final product in 2017.
