Honor is seemingly developing a new Bluetooth speaker that’s been linked with the model number “AM51” in the Bluetooth database. The device appears to have been certified by the agency and is described in the certification documents as a mini speaker bearing the name of “Honor Portable Bluetooth Speaker.” The documents were published on the 20th of December, which might suggest that the Chinese OEM is preparing for a market release sooner rather than later.
No hardware specifications were revealed by the Bluetooth application except for the fact that the speaker supports Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity. Qualcomm Technologies International is also mentioned in the application which could suggest that the speaker might rely on some of the chipmaker’s technology. It’s worth reminding that earlier this year Qualcomm announced its Smart Audio platform for smart speaker developers, though as of this writing we can’t tell whether the Honor Portable Bluetooth Speaker will have any relation with the aforementioned platform. Either way, according to reports the device will be available in “various colors” though none were mentioned in the application, and furthermore, Honor has apparently described the product as a mini speaker designed to be used in various scenarios, both indoors and outdoors, with the device said to offer high-quality audio at home or when traveling, as well as when performing sports activities or hiking.
The device was also reportedly described as a pebble stone-shaped speaker so, by all means, it was designed for portability. The exact design remains unknown at the time of this writing but nevertheless, Honor’s parent company, Huawei, is no stranger to creating unusual-looking Bluetooth speakers, as its previous endeavor in this area came in the form of the Huawei Swan Portable Speaker launched in 2016. It offered Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a built-in microphone, and a 700mAh battery offering around 4 hours of play time at 75 percent volume, the maximum of which could reach 83dB. The Swan speaker can be purchased online for around $18 give or take a few bucks, but it remains to be seen whether the Honor Portable Bluetooth Speaker will fit in the same market segment. Either way, because of the Honor moniker it’s likely that the product won’t be limited to the Chinese market and could enjoy a more widespread release in multiple regions.
