According to a new report provided by Digitimes, three of China’s largest smartphone manufacturers have decided to cut their smartphone orders by 10 percent. Those three OEMs are Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo, and it seems like they have decided to order 10 percent less smartphones compared to initial projections for Q4 2017, simply because demand for smartphones dropped lately.
Now, this report also states that orders for Q1 2018 will probably also be lower than originally expected, though it seems like none of these changes are affecting Xiaomi, at least according to Digitimes. The company is still doing great in both online and offline segments, and it will be interesting to see how many handsets will this China-based smartphone OEM be able to sell by the end of the year, as it has already exceeded all expectations for 2017. The company managed to become the largest smartphone manufacturer in India, dethroning Samsung, and at the beginning of the year, Xiaomi wasn’t even close to the first spot. OPPO’s offline sales haven’t exactly been booming recently it seems, so the company is trying to make up for the difference by increasing its focus on online sales. OPPO had partnered up with Amazon India and Flipkart in order to try and push out more phones to consumers.
The competition in both China and India is quite fierce, that’s nothing new, and it will certainly be interesting to see how will all of these companies line up at the of the year, even though Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi really did well in both of those markets this year, and have already managed to sell a ton of smartphones, so it’s highly unlikely that any of those companies will be disappointed when it comes to their 2017 sales, or anything of the sort. Huawei is even putting more focus on the US market it seems, as the company has confirmed that its flaghips will launch on US carriers in 2018, and if that ends up being a success, Huawei will almost certainly jump over Apple once again, and become the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, though we cannot say anything for sure just yet, we’ll see what will happen.
