The rumored successor to the OnePlus 5T presumed to be marketed as the OnePlus 6 will supposedly ship with an enhanced version of OnePlus’s Face Unlock technology, recent rumors suggest. The facial recognition solution coming to the OnePlus 6 is likely to incorporate more advanced features intended to perform additional tasks including payment verification. Rumor also has it that the OnePlus 6 will include an infrared 3D camera module that will sit on the front panel of the device. The module will presumably be used to scan your face in order to authenticate payments and unlock your handset, thus being similar to Apple’s Face ID introduced with the iPhone X.
The Face Unlock feature that first debuted on the OnePlus 5T presently lets you access your mobile device by just looking at it. The feature is billed as being able to recognize your face and unlock your device in just 0.4 seconds, providing an alternative to the fingerprint sensor that was transferred to the back of the OnePlus 5T to give way to the new bezel-less design of the handset which doesn’t leave room for a physical Home button that also acts as a fingerprint scanner.
This is just the latest rumor circulating the internet regarding the OnePlus 6 and comes only a month after the OnePlus 5T was released for $499. More recently, the Chinese original equipment manufacturer was rumored to be incorporating a QHD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels into the OnePlus 6, though a QHD+ display with a 2,880 x 1,440 resolution seems more likely if the phone maker sticks with the tall aesthetic debuted by its latest Android flagship. It is also understood that the Snapdragon 845 will be powering the handset which will once come in two variants, with the more premium model possibly pushing the RAM threshold by including 10GB of RAM as opposed to 8GB. Given the OEM’s existing product release practices, the OnePlus 6 is likely to launch come spring with immediate availability, whereas the OnePlus 5T should stop being sold and produced in most parts of the world in the weeks leading up to the announcement of its successor, with India presumably being the only country where the bezel-less device will still be retailed come mid-2017.
