The Samsung Email Android app surpassed 100 million downloads earlier this month, as revealed by its Google Play Store listing. Originally released through Google’s digital marketplace in January, the app has been a staple of Galaxy devices for some time now, with its number of downloads suggesting there are currently over 100 million active Samsung-made devices running Android 7.0 Nougat or later versions of the operating system. The figure itself cannot be used to deduce Samsung’s product sales since the app already comes pre-installed on all of its newer handsets and has been released on the Google Play Store before the launch of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus this spring.
While the South Korean phone maker isn’t pre-loading dozens of apps onto its contemporary Android devices like it did in the past, Samsung Email is still part of its core mobile package and is unlikely to be scrapped going forward, especially as the app appears to boast a massive user base. Like the majority of the company’s Android apps, Samsung Email was specifically designed for Galaxy devices, boasting features like advanced Bixby integration and a user interface meant to take full advantage of curved display panels found on Samsung’s flagships. Besides those extra functionalities, Samsung Email is a traditional email app that can serve as a hub for multiple accounts, allowing for easy switching and profile management. It’s designed in a highly minimalist manner and uses a navigational structural similar to that of Gmail, thus being easy to get accustomed to.
Some Galaxy phones and tablets that didn’t come with a pre-installed version of Samsung Email can download one from the Google Play Store, so long as they’re running an OS version no older than Android 7.0 Nougat. The app itself doesn’t have a particularly high rating on Google’s marketplace as it currently sits at an average score of 3.1 stars based on thousands of reviews, though most complaints appear to be aimed at its ease of use, especially in scenarios that have users transitioning from some carrier-specific email apps to Samsung’s own offering.
