T-Mobile has now added the Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge to its list of Samsung devices that will be receiving updates sooner rather than later. In fact, the updates are actually rolling out as of today. While that means will certainly arrive a lot sooner for some users, it bears mention that these kinds of updates tend to take days or weeks to fully roll out. So user’s shouldn’t be too surprised if it takes a while for the update to hit their respective device. In the meantime, what the update actually includes is going to depend on which device a user has. Unfortunately, as is often the case with updates, there isn’t an official and full list available as to what each contains. However, there are one or two big inclusions that T-Mobile mentions in its official press release regarding the updates.
Starting things off, the carrier is updating the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to version N950USQU2BQLA. That includes a bunch of new features, resulting in a download size of around 315.85MB. So users will want to ensure they have a solid network connection and are plugged in before they start the update process. The update itself includes, of course, the December 2017 Android security patch. However, it also includes updates to the device’s video conferencing, T-Mobile’s DIGITS, and a few other features. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge updates are much smaller, at 49.15MB and 49.3MB, respectively. That mostly because they are said to only contain the December 2017 security patch for Android, though it is possible that other bug fixes and optimizations have been included and users will still want to make sure they have a good charge before updating. As to software version numbers, the Galaxy S7 will be brought up to version G930TUVS4BQL2, while the Galaxy S7 Edge will be moved to version number G935TUVS4BQL2.
Finally, this series of updates also includes, as mentioned above, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Active. It makes some sense that the device would be included since T-Mobile also recently updated its Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, as previously reported. For the Galaxy S8 Active, T-Mobile’s press release says that update will weigh in at around 230.09MB. The update brings the software version to G892USQ1AQK5 and includes LTE Advanced License Assisted Access (LAA) support, among “other improvements.” Also included with that is the December 2017 security patch.
