The Samsung Galaxy S9 is still a good couple of months away as its earliest arrival time could be Mobile World Congress 2018, which is going to happen at the end of February. That said it’s close enough to that time frame that there are a fair amount of rumors floating around about the device now and what it will bring to the table when it comes to features. One of the most recent rumors is that Samsung won’t be giving the Galaxy S9 a dual rear-facing camera, and instead may choose to utilize this feature on the Galaxy S9+ only.
This would be a strange move indeed, as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, as well as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, have all had the same camera on both variants of the device each year, so it would be a little out of character for Samsung to switch things up and instead give the Galaxy S9 a single camera on the back while the Galaxy S9+ were to have a dual camera setup. Then again if you think about it, Samsung could make this decision to make the Galaxy S9 a little bit less expensive than the “+” model, which would give consumers more of a reason to choose one over the other in addition to the differing screen sizes.
So far it doesn’t look like there have been any concrete rumors regarding what the camera sensor quality would be if Samsung chose to stick with a single sensor on the back, but the last two flagships it has released have come with 12-megapixel sensors, so there is a good possibility that it could stick with this type of sensor for the Galaxy S9. With more and more smartphones coming out with dual rear camera these days, it begs the question why Samsung would want to stray from this type of feature when even its own Galaxy Note 8 comes with dual rear cameras. If the Galaxy S9 does indeed come with just a single camera on the back, would you skip it and choose to go with the Galaxy S9+ or another type of phone entirely? Or would you still give it a shot?
