Xiaomi has confirmed that its next flagship will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU inside to power the phone’s computing needs, something which may or may not shock you given that Xiaomi has typically used Qualcomm’s best chips for its last few flagship smartphones, and when you consider that the next flagship will be launching next year – a time when Qualcomm’s current top CPU with be the Snapdragon 845 mobile processor. Also worth noting is that Xiaomi has been a Qualcomm partner since its very early days, launching the Mi 1 with a Snapdragon S3 processor inside.
Qualcomm announced the new processor officially during the keynote speech of its technology summit earlier this morning, and while it won’t be sharing detailed specifics or specs information about the chip until the afternoon of December 6th, it did invite Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on stage to share in the excitement. A brief greeting to the attending crowd was followed by a quick confirmation that Xiaomi intends to power its upcoming top-tier smartphone with Qualcomm’s upcoming top-tier processor, so while there isn’t much know about the CPU or Xiaomi’s next phone, there is at least one piece of the spec puzzle on Xiaomi’s next flagship device which has been solved, and with what is likely to be 2018’s best mobile processor running things under the hood, chances are Xiaomi plans to spare no expense when it comes to other specifications and hardware, so whatever the phone will be it will probably be powerful and loads of compelling features.
Xiaomi’s next flagship probably won’t be the only device from the Chinese company which comes powered by the Snapdragon 845 CPU, but it is likely to be the first device that Xiaomi launches with this chip inside seeing as how Xiaomi’s last flagship was launched much earlier this year and the company is due for a replacement. While on stage, Jun was also keen to point out that as of November 20th, 238 million of Xiaomi’s devices are powered by Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm, which includes the latest phones the company has launched as well as past flagships from previous years, a partnership which Xiaomi is going to continue fostering by using Qualcomm’s best in its own best products.
