Canary took to CES 2018 to announce new features for its existing devices, as well as introduce a new indoor security camera called the Canary View. The latest camera in the lineup aims to make home security more accessible, as the Canary View is the company’s cheapest camera yet. While the Canary Flex retails for $199 and the Canary All-in-One costs $169, the new Canary View camera comes in at just $99. The lower price also means cutting a few corners, but the Canary View does come with a number of features that proved popular on other Canary devices.

For instance, the Canary View does not come with outdoor monitoring options, a loud siren, or HomeHealth Technology, which are trade-offs for the lower price. It does, however, feature smart alerts, end-to-end encryption, automatic arming or disarming, and one-touch access to alert authorities in case of a break-in or some other security issue. The Canary View sports a 147-degree wide-angle lens that enables users to watch 1080p security footage through both the mobile and web Canary apps. To view the footage through the Canary Web app, users will need a Canary membership. The Canary View is already available for purchase from Canary’s website in the United States, and it will go on sale at various retail partners later this month. An international release is planned for this spring, but no additional details are available at this point.

In addition to the more affordable security camera, Canary also announced two new features for the existing devices in its lineup. The company had already announced that it would soon enable its cameras to distinguish people from moving objects through Person Detection, but now it’s also adding a Package Detection feature to its Canary Flex. With this feature, Canary Flex owners will be able to get notifications when a new package is delivered, as well as monitor the said package until they actually get their hands on it. Moreover, Canary is also working on integrating Amazon Alexa so that all Canary devices play nice with the Echo line of smart speakers and compatible Amazon Fire TVs. This should make it easier for users to play specific footage from the security camera.
