Amazon's First Ever Echo Spot Ad Hits The Airwaves

Amazon’s camera and screen-enabled Alexa device, the Echo Spot, finally has its very own advertisement, which has been included below. Fittingly titled “Be Together More: Film,” the emotion-heavy ad runs exactly a minute long and highlights some of the more interpersonal aspects allowed by the alarm-clock shaped device’s above-mentioned hardware features. Meanwhile, its accompanying YouTube description describes Echo Spot as a way to access even more opportunities for getting together with loved ones via video calls. That is, of course, in addition to describing how easy the device is to setup and other functions stemming from Alexa’s capabilities.

With regard to the contents of the advertisement itself, the video starts out portraying a family gathering just as everybody is saying their goodbyes. The grandmother watches out the window as her children and grandchildren leave, with a look of sadness at seeing them go, before cutting to a shot of her smiling at a photo of the group. Around the halfway mark, the tone shifts and there is a ring at the door, where an Amazon package containing an Echo Spot device has been delivered – along with a touching note prompting the grandmother to just say “Alexa, Call Home.” Upon plugging the device in and completing the voice command, her family appears on the screen of the device and they proceed to greet each other while the words “be together more” fade onto the screen.

It is interesting that it took Amazon from the device’s first launch back in September to finally get an advertisement put together for the Echo Spot. However, it also makes some sense from the viewpoint of wanting to make sure that ad does a reasonably good job of tugging at the heartstrings, in addition to getting a wider message across. The video is obviously meant to bring forward the more human ways Alexa-enabled devices can be used to maintain a more frequent or continuous connection with family and friends. But it goes a bit further than that by implying that just about anybody can set up and use the Echo Spot with very little explanation needed. Moreover, it shows how that device, in particular, can meet the goal of staying in touch thanks to the ability to stream live video and audio – as well as displaying other important or useful things.
