Google is introducing a Security Center for G Suite, meant to bring security management and best practices directly to G Suite administrators in in a way that integrates with their normal workload. The security center is designed around providing customizable enterprise security that administrators can tailor to fit the needs of their specific organization. On top of the convenience of being able to view security data and actionable insights from right within the normal G Suite workflow, the new Security Center will also analyze a company’s existing security measures and give administrators suggestions on where improvements can be made. The feature is on a fast rollout, and all enterprise G Suite customers should be seeing it within the next few days.
The core of the Security Center is an all-in-one dashboard that shows administrators a wide variety of security data and possible fixes across their network. Activities like device usage, email messages, Google Drive file shares, and other potentially insecure activities can be tracked and analyzed in order to help develop best practices that fit your company’s needs, and enforce them in a way that caters to your employees. Individual activity tracking can be done on a granular level, allowing administrators to flag potential threats before they cause trouble. The Security Health screen of the new Security Center shows the scale and scope of current security measures and potentially insecure practices, and allows administrators to either act on that data or mark it as safe and simply keep track of it.
This effort is the latest in a line of improvements that have been hitting Google’s enterprise-targeted G Suite. The company has been hard at work making G Suite easier for end users and administrators alike, and adding in more useful features. On a related note, administrators managing Chromebooks will soon be able to push Android APK files to them for installation, and the security features of those apps will presumably be addressed in this console. Coincidentally, this also comes just after the announcement of BlackBerry Jarvis, a customizable enterprise security suite that brings features similar to these out into the enterprise world at large, rather than being limited to G Suite users.
