While not announced at CES 2018 this week the Jlab Epic Air are a pair of truly wireless sport earbuds that are sure to capture the attention of any exercise enthusiast with an active lifestyle who wants to be free from cords while they run, bike, or work out at the gym without worrying that sweat or rain will damage their headphones. Best of all like all truly wireless earbuds that have hit the market so far, these ones from Jlab come with a charging case that will allow you to dock the headphones into them and use them for storage when traveling, and of course the case can boost your usage times since it charges the earbuds back up when they’ve died.
The Epic Air will retail for around $149.99 if you’re looking to pick up a pair, which is about the same amount you’ll pay for Samsung’s Gear IconX 2018 models now that they’ve gone on sale quite a few times since they were initially announced. In addition to being a fairly affordable truly wireless earbud pair, the Epic Air are also IP55-rated so they’re protected against sweat, and should be ok with a little rain, but you won’t be able to swim with them on or immerse then in water, so you’ll still need to be careful with them to some degree.
Perhaps one of the main complaints people would have about truly wireless earbuds is the issue with them actually staying in their ears. Not everyone will have a problem with this but it can be easily understood why someone might be weary of such an issue. The earbuds are small, and some just feel like they might fall right out with a little too much activity going on. That doesn’t have to be a worry at all with the Epic Air from Jlab because they come with a “proprietary” earhook that wraps around the back of your ear and keeps them in place, which in turn is going to make sure they don’t fall out even with the most intense exercise sessions. The earbuds also come with multiple sizes for ear tips so if one doesn’t feel right you can pop on another pair and find the ones that suit you the best.
With some truly wireless earbuds there are no controls for managing playback of music or adjusting the volume. These have touch controls on the side of either earbud so you can skip between tracks, pause and play music, and turn the volume up and down if things are a little too loud or a little too quiet. Battery life on these is also an excellent trait of the Epic Air as they last up to six hours on a single charge, but if you need more battery life, not to worry because that charging case that comes with will allow for up to another 30 hours of battery life between all of the charges, and with 30 extra hours you should get about five extra charges from the case, which means these will be lasting you quite a long time before you need to fully charge the case and the earbuds back up at the same time.
