Android Auto is becoming more popular by the day, and as were checking out what CES 2018 has to offer, we’ve checked out Pioneer’s new In-Dash Multimedia DVD Receiver prototype. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you will be able to see this device in person, and it’s worth noting that it is running Android Auto in the provided images. Pioneer’s spec sheet lists Apple’s CarPlay as well, and it seems like the company is planning to push out this receiver to quite a few devices in the future.
Now, this receiver is listed as the Pioneer prototype MY2018 Universal-Fit NEX In-Dash Multimedia DVD Receiver, while its model number is AVH-W4400NEX. That’s quite a mouthful, but we’re pretty sure that Pioneer will have a shorter name ready for it once it becomes official, because once again, this is just a prototype at this point. This receiver comes with a 7-inch Clear Resistive Touchscreen, and a physical hard key bezel. It’s also worth noting that it has an optical disc mechanism to support CDs, and DVD video playback. If you’d like to play some audio or video from an SD card using this receiver, well, you can do that, as the Pioneer MY2018 receiver offers such functionality. This gadget also comes with Bluetooth built-in, though Pioneer did not go into details as to what version of Bluetooth is incorporated in it, as Pioneer may upgrade it moving forward. We still do not know when will Pioneer officially announce this gadget, nor when will it become available for purchase, but we presume it will happen later this year.
It is still unknown whether Pioneer agreed with some car companies to ship this receiver in their cars, but chances are such agreements are in place already, or at least planned. In any case, this receiver is yet another sign that Android Auto is moving forward, and that we’ll end up seeing it in more and more cars moving forward. If you’d like to check out what Android Auto looks like on Pioneer’s prototype receiver, well, feel free to take a look at the gallery down below.
