iHome has announced a new smart speaker at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the iHome iGV1. This smart speaker actually looks kind of similar to the Google Home, even though it seems to be wider and shorter than Google’s offering, but the general design is reminiscent of the Google Home, that’s for sure. Having said that, this smart speaker does come with Google Assistant built-in, and it also doubles as a bedside clock, which is a nice addition by iHome.
The iHome iGV1 smart speaker does come with Bluetooth built-in, and you can also charge your smartphone using this smart speaker, via a USB cable, of course. The device is equipped with the 1amp USB port, and the company also emphasized that this smart speaker works great with iHome Smart Plugs, which are sold separately. On top of being equipped with Bluetooth, the iHome iGV1 also comes with Wi-Fi, of course, which will probably be your main way of connecting this speaker to your router, and using it to control some of your other IoT gadgets. This smart speaker seems to have a couple of buttons on top of it, though you can use your voice to make this smart speaker do lots of things, from setting alarms, to playing songs, audiobooks, and so on. The company did not mention what materials were used to manufacture this speaker, but it seems like some sort of fabric was a part of it, though we’re only guessing at this point. That is pretty much it as far as the iHome iGV1 multifunctional smart speaker is concerned, the company did not announce its pricing, nor other availability-related information, but chances are that such info will be revealed soon.
Having said that, if you’re looking for an Alexa-enabled alternative to the iHome iGV1, and do love the company’s speakers, you may want to check out the iHome iAVS16, a smart speaker that we’ve reviewed a couple of months ago. That speaker looks considerably different to the iHome iGV1, but it does come with Alexa support, and it also doubles as a bedside clock.
