Following recently alleged reveals about Huawei’s 2018 P20 lineup, new design images / sketches and specifications have now been leaked to the internet via the Chinese social networking site Weibo. As with all rumors, it goes without saying that the information and images should be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism until Huawei reveals something more official. Although the images themselves don’t appear to reveal much, they do seem to portray a device that boasts a bezel-free design and three camera sensors on the back – in either a horizontal or vertical alignment depending on the device. The information accompanying the images suggests that each device will be a variation on the P20 flagship platform and that each will be launched as early as February.
It isn’t immediately clear how the presence of three camera sensors would be used by Huawei to improve the photo or video experience, but it’s an interesting inclusion if the images do turn out to be accurate. There are said to be three variations on the P20, including the P20, P20 Plus, and P20 Pro. The P20, as shown in the images included below, appears to feature its cameras in the horizontal orientation next to an LED flash. On the other hand, both the P20 Plus and P20 Pro are shown with cameras aligned vertically – set along the top-left edge for the Plus and down center-top for the Pro – with the LED flash located below the camera sensors. Both the P20 and P20 Plus are also listed as featuring Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC. In the P20, that’s said to be backed up by 6GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage, while the Plus variation is said to ship with the same RAM and 128GB of storage. The P20 Pro is said to beyond that and to feature a brand new Kirin 975 SoC – with a 15-percent performance boost over the chipset found in the other variants. That chipset would also likely include the AI-dedicated features found in the original Kirin 970 SoC. Meanwhile, that SoC is claimed to be backed up by either 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, there has been no confirmation or rebuttal from Huawei concerning the leaked images and it goes without saying that they could turn out to be inaccurate. Bearing that in mind, with the rumored launch date rapidly approaching, at least consumers won’t need to wait too long to find out.
