LeEco Le Max 2 EUI 6 (Alpha) ROM Based On Nougat Emerges

The LeEco Le Max 2 launched in May 2016 has yet to receive a major Android OS update from version 6.0 Marshmallow, and as the clock is ticking away and continues to slim down the chances of an official Nougat update to materialize, an XDA-Forums senior member going by the name of KuranKaname was apparently able to get a hold on an EUI 6 ROM for the device and share it with the community. The ROM labeled as ‘Alpha’ is based on Android Nougat and is under development, meaning that it does contain a number of bugs, but otherwise it is reportedly working with a wide range of LeEco Le Max 2 model numbers including the X820, X821, X822, and X829.

As usual, delving into custom ROM flashing comes with caveats as these types of procedures will void the warranty of a device. The ROM requires the LeEco Le Max 2 to be rooted with Magisk and users may encounter problems that have yet to be discovered by the ROM’s developers. As of this writing, the list of known bugs includes issues with the fingerprint and biometric sensors, and there seem to be some issues related to the installation of APKs from USB sources as well.

The LeEco Le Max 2 was released in mid-2016 running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box but no major updates have been provided to the device since. Hope for an official update to Android Nougat was somewhat rekindled in the summer of 2017 when a leaked photo revealed that the OEM may be testing EUI version 6.0.28 based on Android 7.1 Nougat for several smartphone models – including the Le Max 2 – however, no further concrete developments seem to have been made since then. With that in mind, it’s still unclear whether the device will ever receive any official updates to newer Android OS iterations, so third-party ROMs might be the only way for LeEco Le Max 2 owners to experience a newer OS version moving forward.
