Official: 40 Xiaomi Devices To Get MIUI 9, Including Mi 2

Xiaomi has announced via its official Weibo (Chinese social network) page, that 40 of its devices will be getting the MIUI 9 update. It is worth noting that the update already rolled out to some of these phones, but this list is quite impressive, as some of the devices on the list are actually 6 years old. MIUI is Xiaomi’s custom UI, and its 9th iteration was announced back in July last year, while the global MIUI 9 ROM started rolling out in early November last year.

All of the devices are listed in an image down below, but considering that image is in Chinese, we’ll list them for you here. These devices are eligible to get MIUI 9: Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4s, Mi 4C, Mi 5, Mi 5C, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 5X, Mi 6, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi Note 3, Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Mi MIX, Mi MIX 2, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3X, Redmi 4X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4 High Version, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi Pro, Mi Pad, Mi Pad 2 and Mi Pad 3. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 Standard Edition and Redmi 3 are not on the list, as you can see, but MIUI 9 is in testing for both of those devices, so they will probably also get the update at some point. Now, some of you have probably already noticed that some of these devices are quite old, the Xiaomi Mi 2 was announced way back in 2012, while the Mi 2S, Mi 3 and Redmi 2A arrived back in 2013.

MIUI 9 is definitely not a huge revamp of the company’s Android skin, at least not in terms of the design, but it’s a welcomed addition, as it optimized the whole OS, and it also introduced some new features. With MIUI 9, Xiaomi revamped its notification panel, proper Quick Replies are now present, while everything looks a bit better now. The company has also introduced a new image editor in MIUI 9, and the same can be said for the Mi Video app. This OS is considerably faster than MIUI 8, claims Xiaomi, and app shortcuts made its way to MIUI 9 as well. These are only some of the changes that the company introduced in MIUI 9, so even if you have one of the company’s older phones, chances are you’ll be able to enjoy at least some of these features, as we’re still not sure all of them will make its way to older phones, but who knows.
