Anybody looking into picking up one of Google’s latest Pixelbook Chromebooks may want to stop by Amazon’s website first. For a limited time, running from today through the rest of January, either variation of the new top-tier flagship Chromebook purchased through the site will come with a free Pixelbook Pen. That may not seem like big savings with consideration for the fact that the premium Chrome OS, Assistant-enabled devices cost between $999 and $1649, depending on the variant purchased. However, for those who were already looking to pick one up and were hoping to grab Google’s precision stylus too, Amazon lists the savings as being right around $100. That’s the cost of a Pixelbook Pen if it is bought separately. So it may just be time to go ahead and buy one, rather than waiting until the deal disappears.
As to what’s listed on Amazon, each of the Chromebooks features a battery with a claimed 10-hour life and fast charging for up to 2 hours of use out of a 15-minute charging session. All of them are also built around a 12.3-inch touchscreen Gorilla Glass display built into an aluminum frame weighing just 2.45 pounds. That whole package is slimmed down to 10.3mm, houses a backlit keyboard, and can be used in laptop, tablet, tent and entertainment modes, simply by rolling the screen to different positions along its hinged axis. On the software side, Google Play Android Apps are enabled, as well as access to the full suite of Google apps such as Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides to save even more space on their respective hard drives. Until February 1, each also includes the above-mentioned Pixelbook Pen, which also integrates with the built-in A.I. digital helper that is Google Assistant.
As to what sets them apart, there are a total of three Pixelbook Chromebooks being sold with the promotion, the more affordable variants both come touting a seventh-generation Intel Core i5 processor backed up by a relatively hefty – for a Chromebook – 8GB of RAM. The least expensive of the three also boasts 128GB of storage for $999, while the other i5 variant features 256 GB of storage for $1,199. If that doesn’t seem like enough, the more expensive variation on the Pixelbook boasts a ridiculous 16GB of RAM backed up by 512GB of hyper-fast NVMe SSD storage. That’s backing up a seventh-generation Intel Core i7 CPU and is available for $1,649.
