A new Sony-branded handset has just got certified by the FCC, with the FCC ID PY-24118Q. This handset seems to be different than the phone that got certified recently, the one without a 3.5mm headphone jack, which suggests (even though it’s not related) that Sony may actually introduce more than one smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), as expected. This listing does not exactly mention that the phone will sport a 5-inch display, but it measures 135 x 65mm (height and width), which does suggest that it will be a really compact smartphone.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact which got announced in August last year with a 4.6-inch display measures 129 x 64mm (height and width), so the upcoming device will be slightly taller, and almost identical in terms of width to that smartphone, which also suggests that it may ship with a 5-inch display, as its bezels will probably be noticeably thinner, while it is also possible that it will ship with a narrower display (18:9 display aspect ratio). So, all in all, it is possible that this is the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact that we’re looking at here, even though that phone (its design) hasn’t leaked thus far, at all. If Sony is planning to announce the Xperia XZ2 Compact at MWC 2018, along with its new flagship handset, then we may at least guess what will its spec sheet look like. The device, as already mentioned, will probably sport a 5-inch 18:9 display, thinner bezels, and it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC. The device will include 4GB or 6GB of RAM on the inside, while a battery of around 3,000mAh will probably be included in the package as well.
Now, the company is rumored to announce the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ Pro at MWC 2018, and if the Xperia XZ2 Compact makes the cut as well, Sony will have a rather interesting lineup to share with everyone, especially if the company changes up its design language and cuts those bezels. Both the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ Pro are expected to sport considerably larger displays compared to the Xperia XZ2 Compact, while a side-facing fingerprint scanner may be included in all of those handsets, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.
