Samsung has been receiving multiple reports over the past few weeks from a number of users of its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones regarding displays which randomly wake up, without having to interact with it. According to firtina, a user on the Samsung community forum, the Galaxy S8 Plus unit owned by the user wakes up from lock screen every 10 seconds or so. The issue still persists even after a factory reset was performed and fiddling with all options in the settings menu.
The customer service agent addressing the issue informed firtina to perform a soft reset, though that didn’t work either. In addition, the random screen wake up causes the battery of the Galaxy S8 Plus to drain quickly overnight. Also, the user has reported that using a flip case with the device causes the screen to stay on even when the case is closed. There have been numerous videos posted by affected users showcasing the issue, one of which can be viewed below after this post. At the moment, Samsung has yet to officially address the issue, but the company may do so if more users began to face the same bug. Smartphones from the South Korean firm seem to be plagued by issues in recent times, with the latest being a battery charging problem faced by the Galaxy Note 8, whereby the device will not charge if the battery percentage hits zero.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are Samsung’s current flagship handsets, both of which pack almost identical specs. The smaller Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440, while the Galaxy S8 Plus sports an identical screen, though with a 6.2-inch diagonal. Under the hood, the two phones feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via a microSD card. Both smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 SoC, depending on the region. For optics, both devices sport a 12-megapixel camera on their rear panels which also house a dual-LED (dual tone) flash, whereas selfies are handled by an 8-megapixel shooter. The Galaxy S8 packs a 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 3,500mAh one, and both ship with Android 7.0 Nougat.
