Razer published a full list of Android games optimized for its first smartphone, i.e. the 120Hz refresh rate of the 5.7-inch IGZO IPS LCD panel found on the Razer Phone. The San Francisco, California-based gaming company unsurprisingly partnered with some of the largest developers and publishers in the industry in order to make sure people who purchase its handset have a wide variety of highly optimized gaming experiences to choose from. Among others, the Razer Phone is already directly supported by established names like Square Enix, Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Tencent, Wargaming, and Warner Bros.
On the (MMO)RPG front, the Razer Phone is optimized for a number of high-profile titles such as Lineage 2: Revolution, Runescape, Evoland, and Middle Earth: Shadow of War, as well as the upcoming Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition. Two of the most popular Android MOBAs — Vainglory and Arena of Valor — are also optimized for the Razer Phone’s 120Hz screen, as are Hitman Sniper, Modern Combat 5, and Tekken Mobile. Both Injustice games and Mortal Kombat X make an appearance on Razer’s list, together with the likes of Asphalt 8, Bandai Namco’s two Pac-Man games, Super Samurai Rampage, and Titanfall Assault. Minecraft and Pokemon GO are also listed as being able to take full advantage of the Razer Phone’s display panel, with the full collection of optimized games being relatively varied in terms of genres and visual styles. According to Razer’s previous comments on the matter, the list of games optimized for its mobile gaming device is set to grow on a regular basis going forward, though it remains to be seen how many high-profile titles will even launch on the Google Play Store over the course of this year and feature gameplay that will actually be able to benefit from the unprecedentedly high refresh rate supported by the Razer Phone.
Playing games that aren’t optimized for the Razer Phone may result in some minor screen tearing, a phenomenon that shows information from multiple frames during a single screen draw and is usually caused by a display’s refresh rate being much higher than the actual number of frames rendered by the GPU. In practice, such issues aren’t frequently encountered on the Razer Phone, though titles optimized for the device should still benefit from improved performance outside of simply synchronizing its refresh rate with the number of frames per second.
