According to Counterpoint Research, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is India’s best-selling phone for 2017. This market research website has actually released a list of top 10 best-selling smartphones in the country, and the Redmi Note 4 tops that list. Having said that, Counterpoint Research did not share any info regarding how many units Xiaomi sold, which is a shame, but at least we get to take a look at the list itself.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is actually followed by its sibling, the Redmi 4, which kind of explains Xiaomi’s huge growth in India, affordable price points of those two smartphones managed to appeal to a ton of people in India, it seems, which is why Xiaomi managed to become the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, at least according to Canalys and Counterpoint Research, which is something Samsung does not agree with. In any case, the third best-selling device in the country is the Galaxy J2, while that phone is followed by the OPPO A37. Yet another Xiaomi-branded device is next, and it closes down the top 5 best-selling smartphones list, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Samsung’s devices managed to grab sixth, seventh and eight place on this list, the Galaxy J7 NXT, Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J2 (2016). Vivo also made the list, the company’s Vivo Y55L, and Y53 handsets are ninth and tenth-placed smartphones on Counterpoint’s list.
As you can see, all of the device on this list are actually budget smartphones, you will not see a high-end device here, or anything of the sort. India is a very specific market where budget smartphones strive, especially if they have plenty to offer for the asking price, and it only helps if they are manufactured by a well-known company, of course. In the provided list, you will notice three Xiaomi-branded devices, and four Samsung-branded phones, so it’s not exactly surprising that those two companies accounted for over 50 percent of India’s smartphone market last year. Xiaomi managed to grow immensely in 2017, comparing Q4 2016 and Q4 2017 shows considerably different results for the company, as we’ve talked about yesterday, and it will be interesting to see what will happen this year, will Xiaomi manage to keep growing, or will the tables turn yet again… we’ll see.
