According to the latest report coming out of BayStreet Research, the Google Pixel 2 enjoyed better sales towards the end of the year, over at Verizon. Now this research firm is comparing the sales of the Pixel 2 with the original Pixel, the year before. But also noted that in December, the Pixel 2 family saw an increase in sales at Verizon. It also notes that this was likely due to the $300 off promotion Verizon had been running on the Pixel 2, through the holiday season.
Now when it comes to year over year sales of the Pixel family, BayStreet believes that sales are slightly lower than the year before. However, since Google does not announce sales number for its hardware (and never has), it’s hard to gauge what the real number of sales is for the Pixel lineup. And it’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the real total. But that $300 off a Pixel 2 promo from last December definitely helped the device sell a bit more, even though BayStreet says the bump was a pretty small one. Verizon did spend about $30 million on that ad campaign for that promotion, so it was seen everywhere, by virtually everyone.
The Google Pixel 2 was announced back in October, and was made available later that month through Verizon and Google’s online store. The device wasn’t expected to outsell something like Samsung’s Galaxy S8 or LG’s V30, seeing as it was only being sold unlocked, or through Verizon. And while Verizon is the biggest carrier in the country, that is still only about a quarter of the market. Not to mention the fact that unlocked sales in the US just haven’t picked up, like it has in other regions. The Pixel 2 has also been held back by some of the negative press it has received in the past few months, for things like the display on the Pixel 2 XL. Which had a blue tint issue, a burn in issue and a few other issues. Many of which Google has been able to fix with software, or by giving out new units to those that bought one. But that doesn’t appear to have really damaged the sales numbers for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, at least that research firms like BayStreet are able to tell.
