Rumor: Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium, Plus & XZ1S Set For MWC Launch

A new rumor states Sony will launch a trio of Xperia smartphones at this year’s MWC event. The company is already rumored to be debuting three new devices at CES in a matter of days and if this latest rumor is correct, then it could be the case that another three smartphones will be announced towards the end of next month. With the suggestion being the second set of smartphones will be ones which come with a much higher price tag.

This is due to the second trio of devices said to be comprised of the Xperia XZ1S, the Xperia XZ1 Plus, and the Xperia XZ1 Premium. All of which will serve as higher-end devices, albeit at different ends of the pricing spectrum. Competing in the lower end of the flagship market is expected to be the Xperia XZ1S. Just like previous Sony flagships, the new model will be a very minimal update over the current model, though some changes will be introduced. Among these is the new fingerprint sensor placement, with it now sitting on the rear panel. As well as this, the rear camera setup has now been boosted to include two 12-megapixel sensors. Otherwise, this new model is understood to be largely similar to the current model, with the same 5.2-inch Full-HD display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Sitting slightly above the Xperia XZ1S is expected to be the Xperia XZ1 Plus. This one looks to offer a very similar experience to its smaller sibling, albeit with a larger 5.5-inch display and newer Snapdragon 845 processor. Lastly, topping off Sony’s rumored MWC lineup is the XZ1 Premium. Like last year’s Xperia XZ Premium, this year’s variant will sport a 5.46-inch 4K display, although the storage will be boosted up to 128GB, the RAM to 6GB, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC. All three devices are said to sport LCD displays with support for HDR, and 13-megapixel selfie sensors. In terms of software, Android 8.0 (Oreo) is expected to be included at launch.

If the report is accurate, by the end of MWC the Japanese company will have an all-new lineup of smartphones, ready to compete in nearly all price ranges thanks to the more lower-end models rumored to be on show next week. Of course, Sony is yet to confirm any of the information regarding the devices, although with CES 2018 almost here the first of the 2018 lineup from Sony could be only days away.
