Samsung is discontinuing its Game Recorder+ app for Android devices, the South Korean company revealed as part of an updated description of the service on the Google Play Store earlier this week. The app’s listing states it’s getting shut down on February 28th, after which it will stop functioning in its entirety. Gameplay footage recorded with the solution will also disappear and must be backed up until that date before the app is uninstalled, the company said, adding that all original copies of videos will otherwise be deleted once an uninstallation is prompted starting March. Samsung’s developers suggested users look for another screen recording app in place of Game Recorder+ but didn’t name any specific alternatives, nor did they elaborate on the decision to discontinue the service itself.
As is often the case with Android software from major original equipment manufacturers, Game Recorder+ is possibly getting pulled due to the overall lack of users, having presumably prompted Samsung to stop committing additional resources to its development and maintenance because the firm doesn’t believe doing the opposite is now worth it. While backing up videos may still not be necessary if you intend to keep an obsolete version of the app on your Android smartphone, there’s no guarantee Game Recorder+ will continue working on later operating system versions so it’s highly recommended you heed Samsung‘s advice. Creating copies of your videos outside of the app itself is as simple as tapping the “Save” button on the preview section of every individual clip recorded by the mobile tool.
Samsung is discontinuing Game Recorder+ just over two years after initially introducing it to the market, though the company will continue offering a virtually identical service as part of its Game Launcher app for compatible Galaxy devices. Mobile gamers interested in streaming are also able to take advantage of the firm’s newly launched Game Live service. Game Recorder+ will be pulled from the Google Play Store several days after the South Korean tech giant is expected to introduce its new Android flagships in the form of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, both of which have already been confirmed for an MWC 2018 debut.
