Samsung's "Connected Spaces" is a Connected Pop Up Shop

Samsung is at NRF 2018 right now in New York City, and it has debuted a “Connected” pop up shop solution for retailers. Many are already familiar with pop up shops, especially in bigger cities. These are essentially temporary physical locations for retailers to sell stuff. Google, OnePlus, Samsung and others do this quite regularly after they announce a big new product – like a new flagship smartphone. But Samsung is rethinking the pop up shop this year, and has made it connected.

Now this isn’t connected like a connected home, but connected to the internet. It’s an IoT-ready solution that is going to provide retailers with data and insight on key store factors. This is going to include customer traffic, demographics and dwell time. So that companies are able to see just how many people are coming to its pop up shop, but perhaps more importantly, it can see how many are coming in versus how many are purchasing something at the pop up store. Samsung thinks that this will enable retailers to better understand how customers are experiencing their pop up shop. From the layout, to product placement to staff interactions and so much more. Samsung also touted that Forrester Research found that 47% of commerce technology influencers are increasing investments on in-store analytics, in 2017.

This solution is using Nexshop, which is Samsung’s own cloud-based digital store platform, and has real-time behavioral sensing. It also works with IP cameras and Samsung mobile devices. On top of that, store associates are able to interact with shoppers in the pop up shop using cloud-based content on Samsung tablets or interactive displays. Allowing for a much more engaging customer experience. Samsung is showing this off at NRF 2018, as well as a few other products. Including a digital interactive kiosk, an all-in-one commerce station and new mobile barcode scanning solutions. Samsung is working to make brick and mortar stores better, and easier for shops to sell more products, after all that is the real reason why they open. Samsung has not yet mentioned when the “Connected Spaces” will be available, but it’ll likely be later this year.
