Smarter FridgeCam Can Warn You About Your Groceries Expiring

Smarter Applications recently unveiled the FridgeCam, a wireless camera that allows users to monitor the contents of their refrigerators. It can now be ordered from the device maker for £99, which translates to $139 at the current exchange rate. The manufacturer notes that an average household discards around £700 worth of food items annually, while Brits throw away a total of around 7 million tons of food and drinks over the same period. According to the tech company, its newest product should allow its users to reduce the amount of food they waste by up to 50 percent.

In order to have the camera view the contents of their refrigerators, users should first download and install the Smarter app from the Google Play Store. The device maker states that the camera is capable of identifying the materials that are stored in the refrigerator through the use of object recognition, and it can also track the “best before” and expiry dates of any food items. The camera automatically notifies the user once it identifies a food item that is about to expire. Moreover, it is capable of automatically adding an expired food item to the person’s shopping list which can be accessed through the Smarter app and can even order groceries by connecting to an online retailer. The Smarter app can also remind users to replenish any expired food items once they pass by a store, and it automatically suggests food recipes based on the groceries it detects in the refrigerator it’s tasked with monitoring.

Smarter Applications also claims the FridgeCam is capable of connecting with other smart home devices using Amazon Alexa and solutions like IFTTT.  The FridgeCam takes advantage of the BlinkUp technology in order to pair with compatible devices in a swift manner. The manufacturer claims that the wireless camera can offer up to three months of battery life on a single charge, adding that the device supports all standard connectivity features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The tech firm offers free shipping to customers in the United States and the United Kingdom. Aside from the FridgeCam, the device maker also retails the Smarter Coffee Maker 2.0, a connected coffee maker that features support for both Amazon’s Alexa and the Google Assistant.
