A hands-on photo depicting the alleged Meizu E3 was leaked earlier today on the Chinese social network known as Weibo. The image shows the back of the device which appears to carry a dual camera setup, and although the image was not accompanied by any hardware details, it’s safe to assume that the internal components will be wrapped in a unibody metal case finished in the gold color. The back panel also carries a couple of antenna stripes near the very top and bottom edges which indirectly confirm that this is a metal build, but it’s unclear whether the sensor below the camera module is an LED flash, a camera autofocus/laser focus module, or a fingerprint recognition sensor.
In any case, it’s worth reminding that the Meizu E2 which launched last year had a fingerprint sensor embedded in the front-facing home – or mBack – button. This is usually the case with Meizu smartphones equipped with this type of technology, so presumably the same will apply to the alleged upcoming Meizu E3 as well. On the other hand, it’s worth reminding that, according to reports, Meizu could ditch the mBack button for some of its upcoming smartphone models, and interestingly enough, the device that is shown in this hands-on photo at hand shares some similarities with the upcoming Meizu 15 Plus flagship which was recently envisioned in a high-resolution render. The image showed the lack of an mBack button, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a circular LED flash that looks very similar to the sensor located on the back of the alleged Meizu E3. In fact, the key difference between the rendered Meizu 15 Plus and the Meizu E3 – as seen in this live photo – lies in the fact that the former will supposedly have a glass-covered back panel, while the latter evidently boasts an all-metal build.
Information regarding the hardware is lacking, but presumably, the Meizu E3 will attempt to outshine its predecessor in more than one way. Looking at the model launched in 2017, the Meizu E2 was equipped with a 5.5-inch 16:9 display featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and was powered by the MediaTek Helio P20 chipset paired with a Mali-T880MP2 graphics chip and 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB of RAM depending on the on-board storage configuration. The Meizu E2 was released last year around April so perhaps the Meizu M3 is just a couple of months away from an official announcement, assuming that the OEM will follow a yearly launch schedule.
