Arlo Cameras Will Gain Google Assistant Support Soon

Arlo cameras will gain Google Assistant support soon according to the company’s website. What’s more is that Google Assistant will be compatible with the original Arlo camera, the Arlo Go, the Arlo Pro, Arlo Baby, Arlo Q, Arlo Q Plus, and the Arlo Pro 2, meaning Arlo’s full suite of cameras will be able to utilize the voice-controlled commands for even more ease of use. That said it appears there is really only one command, nevertheless it should be pretty useful for anyone who has Arlo cameras in the home.

As to the command, users only need to ask Google to “show” the camera video feed for whichever camera they want to be able to view. The video stream can be played on Android and iOS devices so if the user is away from home at the time they want to see what the camera sees they can do so. It’s also possible to stream the video feed to a Chromecast-enabled TV or monitor if you’re already at home and simply want to view things on a larger display.

Arlo doesn’t list when exactly the update will be applied that will allow Google Assistant to work with its range of cameras. Presumably, though, “soon” may actually be sooner rather than later. In either case, this makes Arlo one of the latest smart home brands to incorporate Google Assistant support into its products, sparking further growth for the digital assistant platform to make it even more useful. Arlo also doesn’t mention whether or not there will be more than the one command it lists on the website so it’s entirely possible that showing the video feed on a selected device will be the only Google Assistant command that users will have access to. Arlo is a company that is currently owned by Netgear, but it does plan to split from the networking equipment company sometime later this year. Though consumers may end up needing to use the OK Google, or Hey Google hotwords for the time being to activate a command for their Arlo cameras, it may eventually be possible to use a different hotword entirely as Google may be adding the ability to customize the hotword that activates Google Assistant.
