The official wallpapers set to be made available on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus appeared online less than a day after Samsung announced its latest Android flagships. The collection features 15 stock images in total, the majority of which are abstract in nature, though the company’s dandelion is once again returning with the Galaxy S9 lineup. While the wallpapers can be used on any device seeing how they’re just images, they’re best suited for the Infinity Display panels of Samsung’s own offerings. Besides the Galaxy S9 series, screens with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio can also be found on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and the Galaxy Note 8, i.e. the company’s 2017 Android flagships. The Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) mid-rangers also utilize the same image format.
The newest smartphones will run Samsung Experience 9.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, though users will be able to customize them using any third-party launcher, as is the case with all conventional Android devices. The presence of the latest edition of the popular operating system also guarantees support for Project Treble, Google’s initiative meant to accelerate the process of developing minor software updates such as security patches for handsets and tablets powered by a custom implementation of Android. By separating the core framework of the OS from a vendor-specific implementation, original equipment manufacturers won’t have to work across the entire code base of their firmware in order to develop and optimize such software upgrades for their devices and may consequently release them in a timelier manner. While there are no guarantees Samsung will take advantage of Project Treble, the company has been improving its product support practices in recent years and is expected to do so to some extent.
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are widely predicted to be some of the most commercially successful smartphones of the year and are likely to outsell all of their Android-powered rivals released in 2018. The South Korean tech giant will be officially opening pre-orders for its devices on Friday and will begin retailing them on March 16. Consumers who place advanced orders on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus can expect to receive them a week earlier and may also be eligible for some pre-order bonuses, depending on where in the world they’re located.
