A number of renders depicting what’s said to be the Huawei P20 Plus wrapped in a protective case leaked online earlier today, having been uncovered as part of a prematurely launched Alibaba listing. The images seen in the gallery below clearly show a triple-camera setup the handset is expected to sport on its rear plate but fail to reveal an iPhone X-like display notch the P20 Plus is still rumored to feature. The imaging system depicted in the renders also isn’t perfectly in line with previous leaks and rumors, though it appears to be much more straightforward than some older alleged depictions of Huawei’s next Android flagship.
The newly uncovered renders show the supposed P20 Plus with an elongated screen featuring an aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1, the very same image format Huawei already commercialized in the high-end segment of the market with its Mate 10 series launched last year. The display of the upcoming handset appears to be of the edge-to-edge variety and is sandwiched between relatively slim bezels, though its narrow chin is still seen accommodating a physical Home button which presumably doubles as a fingerprint reader given the lack of such a sensor on the back of the device. The top bezel of the possible P20 Plus features a single camera, according to the new leak.
The main selling point of the smartphone consists of three vertically arranged sensors situated in the top left corner of its back panel, positioned immediately above what appears to be a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit. One of the three sensors is believed to be backing a telephoto lens, whereas the other two presumably make up a traditional RGB-monochrome combo Huawei has been using on its Android handsets for several years now. The camera setup of the P20 Plus was likely designed and optimized by Leica, a German optics company that’s been collaborating with Huawei on the last several iterations of the phone maker’s flagships. The P20 and P20 Plus are expected to be officially announced at a Paris, France-based event on March 27 and should become available for purchase on a global level come May.
