Leak: BlackBerry “Ghost” Bezel-Less Phone Coming Soon To India

The image above is said to depict an upcoming smartphone from BlackBerry, which is currently being referred to as the ‘BlackBerry Ghost’. Besides the actual image, there is next to no details on the specs, pricing, or much else relating to this smartphone. Other than the visual suggestion this will be a smartphone featuring a bezel-less design, and one lacking in a physical keyboard – one of the trademark (though not always present) aspects found on BlackBerry phones.

While the details on this phone remain largely absent, the image did come courtesy of known tipster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) and along with the image Blass did provide some insightful details worth noting. For example, Blass states this will be a “premium Android handset” suggesting it will look to cater more towards the high-end tier while also confirming Android will be the operating system in use. Although the last point seems more of a given these days with BlackBerry now fully embracing the use of Android. Blass also does state, however, this phone will be released as a licensed product (it is being designed and/or built) by Optiemus. This follows on from the announcement which came through in February, 2017, where BlackBerry confirmed it had inked a deal with Optiemus to release BlackBerry-branded phones in India. Which is another point Blass picks up on stating the Ghost will be “coming soon to India.” While not explicitly stated, this also likely means this particular BlackBerry device will only be available in India. Certainly, in the case of the Optiemus version.

In other BlackBerry-related news, the company along with TCL, has been in attendance at MWC 2018 and speaking with various media outlets. As per those discussions, BlackBerry hopes to secure a greater degree of the premium smartphone space over the next few years. Something which presumably the Ghost smartphone detailed here will look to contribute towards. Also at MWC, the company was noted explaining its KEYone smartphone has proven to be a success for the company and this is in spite of industry trackers suggesting the actual number of units shipped in the last year are not what one might typically consider to be successful.
