The Moto E5 Play expected to launch on Verizon and Cricket Wireless was recently subjected to a couple of leaked press renders depicting the front of the device. As expected given its moniker and judging by its exterior design, the Moto E5 Play should fit in the budget market segment where it won’t stand out with its sizeable bezels, and the smartphone seems to lack a front-facing fingerprint sensor, suggesting that it may be placed on the back. However, no images of the back panel emerged thus far so this particular detail remains to be confirmed.
According to recent reports, the Moto E5 Play will launch on Cricket Wireless as the Moto E5 Cruise, but its hardware specifications will presumably be identical across all networks. As to what these might be, as yet there’s not a lot of information to go by in regards to what makes the Moto E5 Play tick, but the standard Moto E5 has already been subjected to several leaks, so it could stand as a point of reference for the Moto E5 Play. The non-Play variant is expected to feature a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, and much like the Play variant, it retains a 16:9 display aspect ratio. The Moto E5 is also rumored to be powered by a quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM, and offer 32GB of internal storage expandable by up to 128GB via a microSD card. The back side of the handset should accommodate an 8-megapixel sensor, whereas its front panel is said to carry a 5-megapixel shooter.
As to how the Moto E5 Play could differ from the non-Play model, there is a possibility that the device might actually represent a less capable, budget-friendlier alternative to the standard variant. Motorola’s Plus-branded smartphones are usually meant as slight upgrades over standard variants, however, smartphone models carrying the Play moniker have generally been budget-conscious alternatives to their main series, at least since the original Google Play Edition concept was dropped. As for its availability, Motorola and Lenovo could be preparing to unveil the Moto E5 series at MWC 2018 in Barcelona near the end of this month, though no official word on the matter emerged so far.
