Motorola’s Moto Z2 Force will officially launch in India on February 15, the Lenovo-owned company revealed on Friday. The firm is now in the process of sending invites for the upcoming product event that will see the debut of its latest Android flagship in the South Asian country seven months after its global unveiling and half a year after it became available for purchase in the West. While the company usually brings its products to India several months after their international debuts, the large gap between the Moto Z2 Force’s worldwide and Indian releases is still uncharacteristic of Motorola and has yet to be directly addressed by the phone maker.
No local pricing details have been attached to the Android-powered smartphone so far, though the company already revealed the device will be bundled with the Moto TurboPower mod that’s regularly priced at Rs. 5,999, or just over $93. Like every other member of the Moto Z family, the Moto Z2 Force is compatible with the firm’s proprietary Moto Mods meant to add extra functionalities to them, with the accessory lineup spanning everything from Bluetooth speakers and zoom cameras to gamepads, projectors, and external batteries. Despite not breaking any sales records, the Moto Z lineup remains the most commercially successful series of modular smartphones in the history of the mobile industry that has otherwise only known failure when tackling the concept of modular handsets in the past. The battery Moto Mod set to be offered with the device was first commercialized in India last December and it’s currently unclear whether it will only be attached to the Moto Z2 Force for a limited time or if Motorola intends to bundle it with every sold unit indefinitely.
The main selling point of the handset is its Shatterproof display that’s made of plastic, designed to survive conventional drops without breaking. The phone comes with a four-year display warranty which covers cracks, though using a screen protector with it is still recommended as its screen is somewhat prone to scratching. Beneath the 5.5-inch front panel is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and up to 6GB of RAM, depending on the model, as well as up to 128GB of internal flash memory expandable by a maximum of 2TB. A dual-camera setup with two 12-megapixel sensors is also part of the package, as is a 2,730mAh battery and Android 7.1.1 Nougat that’s expected to be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo later this year.
