Nest Cam IQ Indoor Gains Google Assistant Support

Nest Cam IQ Indoor is gaining Google Assistant Support today, which means if you have one of these security cameras in your home somewhere you can now use it to control other smart home products, like lights, thermostats, fans, speakers, switches, and any number of other products which are integrated with connectivity and support Google Assistant as well. This also helps anyone who doesn’t have a Google Home speaker yet, and more or less foregoes any reason to buy one if you only want or need one point of control, meaning you don’t need to be able to use the voice-activated controls in other rooms save for the one where you have the camera stationed.

Whether you have a Nest Cam IQ Indoor or not, Google Assistant is built-in. For those that do already own one, you don’t have to buy a new camera as Nest will be sending out software updates that will add the feature to your camera, meaning you have to do nothing more than wait for the update to be sent out to users. Nest says the update is starting to roll out to users today but it is only available to U.S. users at the moment and it’s only available on the indoor version of the Nest Cam IQ.

Nest doesn’t mention how long it will take to roll the update out to all users in the U.S., nor does it mention when or if it will be sending this update out to other regions where the Nest Cam IQ Indoor is or will be available. This isn’t the first time that Google Assistant support was mentioned for the camera. The newly-added feature was actually announced officially back in September, so it’s been a little bit of a waiting game for those that have had the indoor camera since then. That said, if it takes a few days to get the update pushed out to everyone a few more days of waiting isn’t much compared to the five months it’s already been. If you’ve been considering the Nest Cam IQ Indoor, you can pick it up for about $300 most places and the update should start soon after you begin to hook it up and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. In addition to the newly added Google Assistant support, Nest is also rolling out a Nest Aware plan change for its cameras. This will be a new plan that will cost just $5 for a five-day time period.
