The annual Nestie Awards are back, with Google’s subsidiary now looking through hundreds of submissions for the strangest, funniest, and the most unexpected video clips captured by people’s Nest security cameras. The Palo Alto, California-based company will pick between five and ten winners that will receive a suite of its security offerings, one free year of the Nest Aware premium subscription, and a “shiny trophy” that has yet to be revealed. As was the case in previous years, the latest iteration of the awards doesn’t have a firm number of categories determined in advance as the company is instead looking to pick up to ten of its favorite videos and then decide on the names of the categories in order to suit them. While that may not be the most defined award process ever, the entire affair is meant to be everything but serious.
Nest is still claiming it will do its best to pick the most deserving winners and is looking at all kinds of submissions, ranging from cute to supernatural. The new contest is the third iteration of the Nestie Awards to date, with the initiative originally being introduced in early 2016. The company already went through this year’s submissions and has compiled some its favorites that can be seen below and are the final candidates that Nest is considering for winners. Over 300 submissions have been accepted this year and while the categories and winners are yet to be decided on, the overall goal of the program remains the same, with Nest claiming it’s once again looking to showcase another face of its product portfolio that’s primarily aimed at keeping one’s home secure but can also help users capture “the unexpected.”
Nest has been going through some major changes in recent times, having introduced its first outdoor cam last year before moving on to integrate the Google Assistant into its suite of security products. The company is now also in the process of being reabsorbed by Google, only two years after being spun off into a separate entity under Alphabet’s corporate umbrella. The firm is now also set to release its first smart doorbell in the form of the Nest Hello early next month.
